Role of mechanical tension in the development of skin diseases

Abstract: 【Abstract】 The skin is the organ that undergoes the greatest deformation in response to external mechanical tension. Mechanotransduction signaling, an important signaling mechanism distinct from the classical pathways mediated by soluble signaling molecules (including those involving ligand?receptor interactions), plays a critical role in the development of various skin diseases. This article reviews the mechanisms by which mechanical tension regulates the development of skin diseases, including psoriasis, hypertrophic scars, and keloids, through its effects on epidermal keratinocytes, dermal fibroblasts, and other skin cells. It also highlights the potential of targeting mechanotransduction pathways as a novel strategy for the prevention and treatment of mechanically related skin diseases.
