Sun screen use, sun protection practices, knowledge of and attitudes toward sun exposure: a survey in undergraduate students in Guangzhou region

Abstract:

[Abstract] Objective To study the behaviors of sun exposure, attitudes to sun exposure, how to protect skin, as well as the risk factors of sunburn in college students. Methods 827 at different stage of college students were selected using cluster sampling method from two university in Guangzhou with their behaviors of sun exposure, attitudes to sun exposure, sun protection and the prevalence of sunburn. Multivariable logistic regressions was conducted to explore the risk factors of sunburn. Results Of the 827 college students investigated, the prevalence rates of sunburn was 57.3%. Risks that influencing the prevalence of sunburn were female,Student-resource from city,no use sunscreen or other sun protection and unrecognized the harms of sunburn. Conclusion sun protection is closely linked with sunburn. Extensive and detailed prevention intervention were needed to reduce the prevalence of sunburn.
