Skin Granuloma Caused by Candida parapsilosis:A First Case Report in China

Abstract: Objective To report a case of skin granuloma caused by Candida parapsilosis which is firstly described in China.Methods The patient was given overall clinical examinations to exclude other diseases.The lesional crust samples were taken for culture and microscopy repeatedly.At the same time histopathology with special staining was performed.The patient was treated with combined antifungal agents.Results There was a 8cm×10cm infitrating plaque covered with thick crusts on the left side of the patient's face.Large quantities of fungal spores were found in the crust by microscopy,and by PAS staining as well.Histopathology showed an intensive intradermal infiltration of lymphocytes and plasma cells.Culture of specimens taken from skin lesions identified as Candida parapsilosis.After two months of combination therapy of fluconazole and itraconazole,the lesion gradually subsided.The patient was still being treated with above antifungal drugs.
