Abstract: Objective To reveal the distribution of subtypes of HIV-1 and their epidemic status in Guizhou Province. Methods The provirus DNA of HIV was extracted from the peripheral blood mononuclear cells in 11 HIV-1 infected individuals, the env gene of HIV was analysed by nested PCR and DNA sequencing. Results Among eleven HIV positive blood samples,7 were subtype B (accounting for 64%),2 were subtype C (accounting for 18%),another 2 were subtype E (accounting for 18%).The genic dispersion rate of subtype B was 3.21±1.4%,with 3 years epidemic in Guizhou. The genic dispersion rates among subtype E or C were 1.65% or 0.98%,respectively,with 1 year epidemic in Guizhou. Conclusions There are various subtypes of HIV strains in Guizhou Province, transmitted from different sources, which indicates that sexual transmission will be dominant in the future, and also more difficult to control.
