Experimental Study on Chinese Traditional Medicine “Powder to be Infused for Acne”in Rabbit Ear

Abstract: Objective To establish an experimental animal model for acne to observe the anticomedone effect of “Powder to be infused for acne".Methods According to Kligman's method,coal tar was applied daily to the area nearby the opening of albino rabbit ear canal for two weeks.Then,the rabbits were divided into two groups,the first group was fed with the Powder,and the second group not.Results Acniform lesions on the rabbit ear could be seen two weeks later,which were similar to the findings of acne in human beings under optic microscope and transmission electron microscope.The changes of first group markedly improved 4 weeks later,but no change in the second group.Conclusion This experimental animal model of acne can be repeated and might be used to observe the effect of drugs,and the “Powder to be infused for acne" could reduce the follicular keratinous plug and the dermal inflammation.
