Abstract: A survey of genitourinary Chlamydia trachomatis infection and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antibody was conducted in 456 patients attending sexually transmitted disease(STD) clinics and prostitutes from Nanjing, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Shanghai regions from September, 1991 to February 1992. The results showed that there were 94 cases of urogenital chlamydial infection, accounting for 22.2% of the patients tested, and no one was HIV antibody positive. In patients with chlamydial infection, 14.3% (8/56) were co-infected wish gonorrhea, while 1.8%, 1.8%, and 1.8%(1/56) with syphilis, condyloma acuminatum, and genital candidal infection, respectively. Three kinds of STD, namely chlamydial infection, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis coexisted in 3 patients(5.3%). 48.8% of Patients with chlamydial infection had no clinical symptoms. It is demonatrated that ttrogcnital chlamydial infection has been prevalent in our country, which suggests the necessity of strengthening the control work for urogenital chlamydial infection in the course of national STD control Program.
