Treating hypertrophic scars with hypoerellin(A fungal phototoxic substance)phdtochemothecapy:Report of 62 cases

Abstract: From April 1979 to August 1980, 62 cases with hypertrophic (keloidal) scars were treated with hypocrellin photochemotherapp (local application of hypocrellin ointment plus irradiation of mercury fluorescent light) in our hospital 54 cases were due to burns or scalds and 8 cases were, post-operative scars. The duration of scars were less than one year in 37 cases and over one year is 25 cases. After treatment the scars become soft, flat and smooth.The articular,functions recovered, partially or completely in addition to relief or disappearance of their subjective symptoms, such as itching-and pain. The total effective rate was as high as 98.4%.
