Role of autoimmune-associated B cells in autoimmune diseases

Abstract: 【Abstract】 Autoimmune/age?associated B cells are a phenotypically and functionally distinct B cell subset that accumulates with age. In addition to producing antibodies, these cells participate in inflammatory responses by activating T?cell function and secreting cytokines. Accumulating evidence indicates that autoimmune?associated B cells are abnormally expanded in autoimmune diseases and play a critical role in their pathogenesis. This review summarizes the characteristics, origins, and functions of autoimmune?associated B cells, as well as their potential pathogenic mechanisms in autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis.
