Abstract: Serum values of zinc, coppcrycalcium, magnesium and ferrum in 52 cases of vitiligo were determined by atom absorption spectrophotometric method, and serum levels of phenylalanine and tyrosine in these patients were determined by fluorescent spectrophotometric method. The values detrmined were compared with that of normal controls. The results were as follows; The serum values of zinc' calcium, magnesium, phenylalanine in vitiligo were significantly vlower(P<0.001)than that of normal controls, that of ferrum were decreased (P<0.05), but those of copper, 0tyrosine were in Normal ranges(P>0.05).From the above results preliminarp conclusion might be drawn; in vitiligo there are some disturbances in the synthesis of melanine. The authors suggest that foods rich in zinc, calcium, copper, phenylalaaiae and tyrosine, like walnuts, black soybean and squid ete should be given to patients with vitiligo and the relationship between copper, magnesium and vitiligo should be further studied.
