The safety and efficacy of propranolol are superior to those of traditional glucocorticoids for the treatment of IH, but oral propranolol can cause systemic complications. Recently, topical beta?blockers have become a new research hotspot in the treatment of IH, including 0.5% timolol ophthalmic solution, 0.1% timolol gel?forming solution, nano?propranolol?dispersed hydrogel, etc. In addition, topical 5% imiquimod ointment, local injections and combined lasers at different wavelengths all can be alternative therapies for IH. This review summarizes topical drug treatment of IH.
