Abstract:

Objective The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between Chronic idiopathic urticaria(CIU)and the level of serum leptin. Methods Autologous Serum Skin Test (ASST) was used in 45 patients of CIU and CIU patients were divided into ASST positive group and ASST negative group according the results from the test. The level of serum leptin was detected by radioimmunoassay in CIU group and healthy control group that matched each other in age, gender and BMI and included 32 persons . Results (1)The positive rate of ASST was 31.78% in 45 patients. (2) The leptin level of CIU group (12.51士4.29ng/ml)was significantly lower than that of control group(15.57士4.38ng/ml)(P<0.01). (3)Both positive and negative ASST group’s leptin level was significantly lower than that of control group (P=0.002, P=0.039), but there was no significant difference between the positive ASST group and negative one(P>0.05). Conclusions The level of serum leptin is low in CIU patients, therefore, leptin could play an important role in the pathogenesy of CIU.
