Abstract: Objective To explore the effects of small random pattern skin flaps in one stage repair of facial skin defects in dermatologic surgery. Methods Specific small random pattern skin flaps were designed for the one stage repair of facial skin defects in 203 patients after the resection of their lesions. Results A total of 8 kinds and 205 pieces of small random pattern skin flaps were successfully designed and applied in one stage repair of facial skin defects.Of all patients,182 achieved excellent effects with a concealed scar left but without facial deformation,21 experienced epidermal necrosis in the distal end of skin flaps. The most widely used were sliding advancement skin flaps, followed by rotation skin flaps. The predilection sites for the formation of skin flaps in decreasing order were bucca, followed by eyelids, foreheads, tempus, preauricular and mandible regions. Conclusion Reasonable design of small random pattern skin flaps may result in satisfying therapeutic and cosmetic effects for one stage repair of facial skin defects.
