Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect on skeletal systemin SLE patients after long-termadministration of Tripterygium Wilfordii(TW). Methods The bone mineral density(BMD) of lumbar vertebrae 2~4 was detected by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry(DXA) with high sensitivity in 71SLE patients and healthy controls matched with age, sex, weight and height. Results (1) Long-termadminis-tration of TW could significantly decrease BMD level. (2) The degree of this effectwas significantly associ-ated with total duration of administration of TW. Conclusion Our data suggest that long-termadminis-tration of TW has remarkable effect on skeletal systemin SLE patients, and increases the risk rate of os-teoporosis and bone fracture.
