Abstract: The article reports the epidemiologic data of syphilis from 38 city surveillance spotsJ 24 provinces in 1990. 809 cases of syphilis were reported. The lverage incidence in 1990 was 0.75/100000. The incidence of male patient(0.97/100000) was higher than that of fentaie (0.52/100000). The incidence was higher in Xinjiang, Shard, Gansu and Hehei autonomous region and provinces. The 20-39 age-group sexually active patients accounted for 73.54% of all cases. Most of the group on sexual behaviour and sexual practice have changed. 71.32% of all cases were seen in the patients whose level of education was below junior middle school, early infection cases (including primary, secondary and early latent syphilis) accounted for 97.21% (787 cases) of total cases; tertiary syphilis 1.65% (13 cases), and early congennital syphilis 1.14% (9 cases).
