Abstract: DNA from six common pathogenic randida species were digested by the restriction endonuclease EcoRI. The geleleckrophoresis revealed different patterns fnr each of the species. Moreaver, eight strains of C. albicans demonstrated three intensely staining bands(4.9, 3.7 to 3.8, 2.4 to 2.5 kilobases in length) and the patterns were shown to be stable and reproducible. It is suggested that the patterns represent genotypic characteristics of C. albicans and after studying for more strains, the DNA restricted patterns may offer a useful tool for the identification of candida species.
