Abstract: We used scanning electron microscopy to study the hair follicles in normal skin, vitiliginous lesion and repigmented skin. There were few melanocytes in the infundibulum of some anagen follicles in normal skin. In the hair follicles of vitiliginous lesions, there were no melanocytes found in the outer root aheath. But in the repigmented area, there were a lot of melanocytes along the surface of the outer root sheath at any hair growing stages. Our observation proposed another evidence that the "melanocyte reservior" may exist in the middle and lower protion of the hair follicle, from there the melanocytesl migrate upward during the period of repigmentation.
