Abstract: Epidermal Langerhans cells (LC) in the lesions of 10 patients with tinea versicolor were studied by ATPase staining. Epidermal LC in the uninvolved skin on the opposite sites in 4 patients and in the normal skin on the chest or the abdomen in 4 healthy individuals were studied for comparison. The results showed that the density of LC in the lesions decreased markedly in comparison with the healthy group (P < 0.001), and their cistribution showed focal aggregations. The dendrites of many IC looked shorter in length, decreased in number or totally disappeared.
