Abstract: Hair specimens collected from 6510 patients with tines of the scalp in 15 prefectures or cities of Xinjiang and their jurisdictional counties or communes underwent isolation and cultivation for pathogenic trichophytons. Of the 3726 survived specimens, Trichophyton schoenleini predominated, followed by T. violaceum and Microspomm ferrugineum. The differences in nationalities and areas, however, led to the incomplete consistency of the distribution ratios of various pathogenic fungi. Trichophyton verrucosum and T. gypseum were also isolated from domestic animals. It is the authors' feeling that these data may, on the whole, represent the fungous spectrum of tines capitis of the region of Xinjiang and are important to launch effective control of tines capitis. The mycological findings of the present study are basically similar to those reported at home and abroad but differ from those in some aspects.
