Abstract: Twenty-six cases of acute urticaria were treated with laser-acupuncture therapy, the total effective rate was 88.46%. The values of serum histamine and 5-hydroxytryptaminc were determined in 23 cases before the treatment, and these results were compared with normal controls by the t-test, and showed P<0.01 and P>0.05 respectively. The results of serum histamine and 5-hydroxy-tryptamine determined in 18 cases before and after the treatment, also showed significant difference (P<0.05 and P<0.01 respectively). It is suggested that histamine is an important mediator in the pathogenesis of acute urticaria, so the laser-acupuncture may have anti-histamine action in the treatment of acute urticaria.
