Abstract: Eight thousand five hundred and eighty-six culture-positive cases of Trichophyton rubrum infection from O.P.D.wore recorded from 1949-1983,and 3673 cases of them were analysed.The clinical manifestations of the epidermis,nail,hair and deep-seated tissues with Trichophyton rubrum infection,their relationship to etiological agent, differential diagnosis and mycological characteristics were discussed.Finally,based upon the etiological agents and not upon the anatomic positions, a new method of nomenclature and classification of dermatophytoses was suggested.
