Abstract: The results of clinical therapeutic trials and fungistatic tests of borax is vitro were reported, 573 cases of dermatomycoses were treated with 20% borax cream and 15% borax cream. The results. were as follows:the curing rates of 20% borax cream and 15% borax cream were 66.36% and 75.41% and the effective rates were 83.48% and 92.50% respectively.The therapeutic response of 15% borax cream was better than that of 20% borax cream (P<0.005). The side-effects-of both borax creams were rare and slight. We found that borax had relatively strong fungistatic action on dermatophytes in vitro.The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the aqueous solution of borax for T. rubrum, T. gypseum and T. violaceum was 0.05-0.1%,and the MIC for C. albicans and E. floccosum was 0.5-1%.
