Abstract: 【Abstract】 Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a complex inflammatory skin disorder. Over the past two decades, the prevalence of AD in China has been continuously increasing. Due to the atypical clinical manifestations of AD commonly seen in Chinese patients, several diagnostic criteria have been proposed and validated. Genetic studies have revealed that Chinese patients with AD share some susceptible loci with Caucasian populations, and also harbor unique susceptible loci. Regarding pathogenesis, the skin microbiome plays an important role in the development of AD. Meanwhile, immune cells in the skin serve as key effector cells that orchestrate various functions in AD. Neuroimmune mechanisms are also involved in the initiation and progression of inflammatory responses in AD. In recent years, novel systemic treatments, represented by biologics and Janus kinase inhibitors, have demonstrated favorable efficacy and safety profiles in Chinese AD patients. Collectively, research advances in the pathogenesis and treatment of AD made by Chinese scholars have significantly improved the understanding and management of AD.
