Abstract: We examined 15 specimens from 14 patients with papilloma of external auditory canal.Histopathologi-cally, all cases revealed papillomatosis.A few focal vacuoular cells on the upper part of the stratum malpighil were found in 5 cases.Ultrastructually, in the vacuoular cell, the number of perichromatin granuies and inter-chromatin granules and nuclear bodies were increased. No virus granule was present.HPV6 was detected in all specimens by means of polymerase chain reaction. No HPV 8, 11, 16, 18, 31 and 33 were found. These results suggest that papilloma of external auditory canal is caused by HPV6 infection.
