Abstract: IgM and IgA antibodies against human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and urine HCMV-deoxyribonucleic acid (HCMV-DNA) were examined in the serum and urine respectively from 86 patients with psoriasis by using enzymewlinked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR).Active HCMV infection and positive rate of HCMV-DNA in the urine were found in 55.8% and 24.4% of patients respectively, but the rates were only 4.0% and 0 in normal subjects (P<0.001).The results indicate that psoriasis is related to active infection of HCMV.
