Abstract: We used recently developed technique, polymerase chain reaction-single stranded conformation polymorphism(PCR-SSCP) for detection of gene mutation, and paraffin embedded tissues of 12 patients with basal cell carcinoma and 5 controls were used for examinotion. It was found that the deletion and mutation rate of p53 gene in basal cell carcinoma was 42% (5/12),whereas no deletion and mutation were observed in 5 normal tissue specimens. Our results indicate that the abnormality of p53 gene is an important event in carcinogenesis and evolution of BCC.
