Abstract: Objective The purpose of this study is to understand whether Mycoplasma genitalium infection is present in the high risk populations in China, and what is its prevalence so as to provide evidence for the prevention and treatment of it.Methods The genitourinary specimens collected from the STD patients and sexually promiscuous persons were cultured in SP-4 medium for the isolation of M.genitalium.All of the isolates with their biological characteristics consistent with those of M.genitalium were identified by polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Results Eight strains of M.genitalium were isolated from 227 genitourinary specimens, the isolation rate of M.genitalium in the high risk populations was 3.85%,among them the rates in the STD patients and in the promiscuous persons were 5.21% and 2.29% respectively, and the difference between them was not significant (P>0.05).Conclusion M.genitalium infection is present in the high risk populations in Beijing,Shanghai and Nanjing, and is firstly verified by isolation of pathogen.
