Abstract: Objective To study and establish a culture model of mouse vibrissa follicle in vitro. Methods Mouse vibrissa follicles cultured in serum free medium were used to study the follicles in different ages of mice and in different growing stages Results 1 With Williams medium E and L-glutamine,the follicles kept growing for more than 8 days 2 Follicles in the early phase of anagen (anagen-II)grew significantly faster than the follicles in any other phases,3 The growth of hair fibers was better in adult mice than that in 7-day-old mice.4 The follicles after excising the upper one third grew faster than a mixture of two parts of cut follicles and the intact follicles. Conclusion 1 Mouse vibrissa follicles in early anagen grew better than that in any other phases of the hair cycle 2 With Williams medium E plus L-glutamine,the mouse follicles kept growing over 8 days.3 Cutting off the upper one third of the follicle during the culture promotes the growth of the follicle.
