Abstract: Objective To study the therapeutic mechanism of the antivirus capsule containing Chinese herbs against genital herpes. Methods The female guinea pig GH models were treated with antivirus capsule. The vaginal titer of the virus and the symptoms of vulva were observed. Cell culture was used to detect the cytopathic suppression. Results It was shown that there was no difference between antivirus capsule group and acychovir (ACV) group on the titer of virus in the vagina of guinea pig (P>0.05). The symptom score after the treatment with antivirus capsule was significantly lower than that of saline control group (P<0.05), and similar to ACV group (P>0.05). Cell culture showed that the lowest effective concentration for suppressing HSV-2 by antiviral capsule 1 and antiviral capsule 2 was 0.390625 mg/mL or 1.5625mg/mL, respectively. Conclusion Antiviral capsule containing Chinese medicinal herbs inhibits HSV-2 in vivo and in vitro.
