Study on the Correlation Between Depression,Anxiety and Chronic Urticaria

Abstract: Objective To investigate the correlation between anxiety,depression and chronic urticaria.Methods Thirty-six patients with chronic urticaria(group A),26 patients with superficial fungal infection(group B)and 30 normal controls(group C)were surveyed using 4 psychological questionnaires:self-rating anxiety scale(SAS),Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA),self-rating depression scale(SDS),Hamilton depression scale(HAMD).Results The scores of SAS,HAMA,SDS,HAMD in3groups showed statistically significant differences(P<0.01).The scores of SAS,HAMA,SDS,HAMD in group A were significantly higher(P<0.01)than those of Group C;The scores of SAS,HAMA,SDS,HAMD in group B and group C showed no significant differences(P>0.05).More chronic urticaria patients(25.0%)had anxiety symptoms(HAMA score>14)than those of group C(3.3%,P <0.05).More patients in group A(33.3%)had depression symptoms(HAMD score>17)than group C(6.7%,P<0.01).The differences of anxiety and depression symptoms between group B and group C were not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion The onset and delayed cure of some chronic urticaria may be related to anxiety and depression.
