Prevalence of acne: a survey in Liangshan region of Sichuan province

Abstract:

Objective To obtain the prevalence of acne in Lianshan district. To explore the differences of acne prevalence between the Han nationality and the Yi nationality, as well as between the rural area and the urban area. Methods A community-based survey was conducted. The cluster sampling was used. Subjects were required to fulfill the self-report questionnaires and also received physical examination by dermatologists. Results A total of 1 0503 people were included in this study .Acne were present in 4 908 people. the overall prevalence of acne was 46.7% ( 23.2% after standardized). The prevalence of acne in male and female were 48.3% and 45.7% respectively (p<0.01 ). The prevalence of acne in urban area and in rural area were 38.7% and 50.8% respectively( p<0.01 ). The prevalence of acne in Han nationality and which in Yi nationality were 47.2% and 42.5% respectively (p<0.01 ). Conclusions The prevalence of acne in Liangshan district was obtained . Male had a higher prevalence than female.The prevalence was higher in rural areas than whicn in urban areas . Han natiionality had a higher prevalence than Yi nationality.
