Abstract:
[Abstract] Objective To analyze the genetic factors in vitiligo in newborn. Methods Forty-two cases of vitiligo in newborn and their pedigrees were studied. Results Among the 42 probands, 20 were male, and 22 were female; 17(40.48%) of them had a family history of vitiligo. Among the 17 familial vitiligo, 13(30.95%) of them were vitiligo vulgaris, 4 (9.52%) of them were segmental vitiligo. Among relatives of these patients, there were 26.19%, 33.33%, 14.29% and 11.90% percent of members with vitiligo in their first, second, third and fourth-degree relatives respectively. The age of onset was observed to be antedated among some of the families. Conclusion Genetic factors play an important roal in vitiligo in newborn.
