Psychological study on 141 patients with sexuall transmitted diseases

Abstract:

[Abstract] Objective To study the spirit health and personality characteristics of STD patients so as to provide evidence for the further control of STD. Methods The 141 patients of STD clinics from Skin Disease Prevention and Treatment Institute of Taizhou, Jiangyan and Xinghua during October 2006 to December 2007 and 107 general population were assessed with SCL-90 and MMPI. Results (1) The 141 STD patients had psychological problems to different degree generally among which the depression, hypersensitivity to interpersonal relationship, somatization, paranoid and other items problems were the most common, and the difference were significant compared to the control group (P<0.05). (2)The mental abnormality and psychasthenia of STD patients were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.05), depression scores was very significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.01).Conclusions Psychological problems which could influence the psychological health were widely existed among STD patients. So we should give psychological intervention to the STD patients according to their psychological characteristics while treated their somatic diseases.
