Abstract: Objective To observe the efficacy of intense pulsed light(IPL)on freckles,café-au-lait spots and seborrheic keratoses. Methods A total of 199 patients were treated, including 69 cases of freckle, 58 cases of café-au-lait spot and 72 cases of seborrheic keratosis. All patients were treated with IPL every 3 weeks for 12 weeks. Before each session, lesions were photographed, and therapeutic effects were evaluated by physicians based on improvement in pigmentation and lesion area recorded on the photoes. The improvement rate was classified into five grades(unchange,0%~25%,26%~50%,51%~75%,76%~100%).In addition, subjective satisfaction of physicians and patients was recorded. Results Patients with freckles responsed remarkably, and more than 50% improvement was obtained in 55% and 100% patients after the first and second session, respectively.Patients with café-au-lait spots or seborrheic keratoses also responsed well, and more than 80% patients experienced 50%~100% improvement after the fourth session. The satisfaction rates of the physicians and patients were 96.73% and 94.65%,respectively, showing no statistical difference between them(x2=0.13,P>0.05).Conclusions IPL is a new modality for the treatment of freckles,café-au-lait spots and seborrheic keratoses, with good short-term effect and few adverse effects.
