Abstract: The epirlernal-dermal junction(EDJ) and cutaneaus basal lamina(BL) in discoid lupus erythematosus(DLE),lichen planes(LP) and normal skin were observed by scanning electron microscopy. In normal skin the dermal papillae were cylinder-shaped in good order.Dermal papillae and valleys were covered by corrugated basal lamina. In DLE the papillae were flattened and some were peak-shaped in different heights. The appearance of BL showed coarseness and disordered orientation.More hale formations allowing lymphocytes passage were located in interpapillary zones. In LPdermal papillae, cylinder or irregular shaped, were covered by coarse corrugations. The tops of some papillae were smooth.Less hole formations were seen. This report indicated that marked differetiation of EDJ was observed between DLE and LP.
