Abstract: Eight Chinese herbal medicines were individually used to pretrcat human ureEhral epithe- lial cells(UEC),strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae(NG) and UEC-NG in vitro. The results shoGwd that under light micrnscope the number of gonococci ors UEC pretreaked 6y Dioscorca hypoglauca Palih, khcum ofhcinale Baill,Plautago asiatca L.,Ahcbia triioliata Koidz and Smilax alabra Roxb siginificantly decreased than those of otlser mrdiciues and the Control(P<0.01).Under SEM,the cells underwent Dirscorea hypoglrtuca Palib and so on pretrcatmeut showed no morphological chatigcs. It suggests that tltese Chinese herbal medicines probably play certain role in improving human resistance to N.gonarrhoeae, inhibiting rite attaclnnent of NG to,iost cells and avoiding resistant strains production. It also indicates that this experiment might provide a mvdtad for screening of the Chinese medicine im treating gondcoccal infections.
