Double Blind Study on Tanahinone Versus Placebo in the Treatanent of Acne Vulgari and the Effects on Sebum Excretion Rate and Propionibacterium Acnes Counts

Abstract: A double blind study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of oral Tanshinone, an ether extract from Radix salviae Multiorrhizae, in a dosage of 3g daily versus placebo for 6 weeks in the treatment of inflammatory acne vuigaris. The clinical effects of Tanshinone in 2 of the 19 patients were excellent, 8 were good, 5 were fair and 3 were poor, with a total efficacy up to 84% and without any untoward reaction.
