Abstract: Fluorescent antinuclear antibody (FANA) test using both tissue culture cells (Wish cell) and rat liver as substrates were performed. Sensitivities were compared using sera from 103 patients with connective tissue diesases and other autoimmune diseases. Specificities were compared using sera from 16 patients with nonautoimmune diseases and 40 healthy subjects. Results showed that tissue culture cells as substrate could enhance the sensitivity and did not decrease the specificity significantly. The authors consider that it may be of help to use tissue culture cells or combine it with rat liver as substrate in the detection of ANA.
