Abstract: Three isolates of Penicillium marneffei (two strains isolated from human cases, the other from bamboo rat in Guangxi Province) were further identified by means of exoantigen test. ATCC 24100 was used as control. ATCC 24100 is the subculture of a strain identified as Penicillium mameffei by DiSalvo. Pitt recognized Peniciilium marneffei but he treated DiSalvo's strain together with P. divezsum var. aureum (ATCC 10438) and propascd a new name, Penicillium primulinum, for it. Seklton confirmed ATCC 24100 to be Penicillium mamcffci. Our results confirmed that the isolates from Guangxi are the same as the control-Penicillium marneffei. ATCC 10438 and ATCC 24100 are not conspeeific, therefore,Pitt's taxonomy is not appropriate.
