Abstract: 【Abstract】 Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease associated with genetic, immunological, and environmental factors. Smoking may induce and aggravate AD through various mechanisms such as impairing the skin barrier, epigenetic modifications, reducing regulatory T-cell function, activating the aryl hydrocarbon receptor, and oxidative stress. Smoking is closely related to the prevalence, severity, comorbidities and long-term control of AD. Conversely, patients with AD may have a higher rate of smoking. This review summarizes research progress on the relationship between smoking and AD.
