Abstract: One hundred and three patients with acne vulgaris were randomly divided into three groups in which 0.3% spironolactone (SP) cream, spironolactone Composite cream containing 1% clindamycin (SPC),and 10% benzoyl peroxide (BP)cream were topically used for 6 weeks, respectively. The results of the doublc-blind study showed that: (1) the numbers of inflammatory lesions in the SP,SPC and BP groups were significantly decreased after treatment with the effective rates of 73%,83% and 77%.respectively; (2) the seborrheic scores in all groups were significantly lower than thosc 6eforc treatment (P<0.0001);(3) FFA/TG ratios were significantly decreased in both the SPC and BP groups (P < 0.05),but there was no significant difference observed in the BP group; (4) there was apparent irritation to the skin in the BP group and slight irritation in both the SP and SPC group. It is confirmed that topical application of 0.3%,spironolaclone is effective for the treatment of acne vulgaris, and spironoiactone composite can also be used clinically because it bas good therapcatic effect and less side effect than that of benzoyl peroxde.
