The Chinese Journal of Dermatology is sponsored by the Chinese Medical Association, edited and published by the Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences(CAMS) . It is a dermatological journal for senior and junior dermatologists, clinicians, and other medical research workers. The purposes of the journal are as follows: (1) to carry out general and specific policies of the national health work set by the Party and the Government, (2) to implement the policies of integrating theory with practice, and combining popularization with the raising of standards, (3) to report the major progress in clinical and scientific research of dermatology and venereology in our country, and (4) to promote the national and international academic exchanges in the field of dermatology and venereology.ª¥
    The contents of the journal in brief contain original articles and short articles on basic research in dermatology, the advances and experiences in prevention and treatment of various dermatoses, combination of traditional Chinese medicine with western medicine, dermatological surgery, cosmetic dermatology, new drugs, new techniques and new methods related to dermatology. The journal also publishes review articles, case reports (with photographs), collection of rare cases, brief communication, rapid communication, book reviews, commentaries, continuing medical education, letters and opinions. It also contains English abstracts of original articles, summary of international and national dermatologic conferences, report of foreign scholars, information and news. Colorful pictures are published with texts in each issue.
     The journal has been indexed or abstracted by the Biological Abstracts of the United States, the Chemistry Abstract, and 10 kinds of domestic databases, mainly including Chinese Sci-tech Paper and Citation Database (CSTPCD), Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD), A Guider to the Core Journals of China, Chinese BioMedical Literature Database on disc, Chinese Medical Current Contents, Chinese Academic Journal (CD-ROM), Wanfang Data-Digital Periodicals. According to the report from CSTPCD in 2005, the total citation frequencies and impact factor of the journal were 1370 and 0.719 respectively, ranked 4th and 5th respectively among 45 clinical periodicals, 135th and 208th respectively among 1652 periodicals indexed.
    The journal won the third prize among the highly rated journals sponsored by the Chinese Medical Association in 1987, the Huarui Cup prize met the criteria of standardized editing in 1992, the second prize among the journals with high quality on the celebration of 80th Anniversary of Chinese Medical Association in 1995, the second prize among the journals with high quality of Chinese Science and Technology Association, and of Jiangsu Province in 1997, the second prize among the journals with high quality on the celebration of 85th Anniversary of Chinese Medical Association in 2000, the second prize among the journals with high quality of Chinese Science and Technology Association, Huadong District, awarded the title of¡°double ten best¡± and selected into the Jiangsu journal phalanx in 2002, and honoured the title of ¡°Hundred Outstanding Academic Journals in China¡± in 2003 and 2005 by the CSTPCD.
